Crumble Ingredients
- 4 cups Apples, peeled and sliced Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work best
- 1/2 cup Granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
- 1 cup All-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup Rolled oats Optional for extra crunch
- 1/2 cup Brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup Cold butter, cubed
- 1/4 teaspoon Salt
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Toss the apple slices with granulated sugar and cinnamon in a bowl until evenly coated. Spread the apples in an 8x8 inch baking dish.
In another bowl, mix flour, brown sugar, salt, and oats if using. Add cold butter cubes and rub the mixture with your fingertips until it resembles coarse crumbs.
Sprinkle the crumble mixture evenly over the apples without pressing it down.
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until the topping is golden and the apple filling is bubbling at the edges.
Let the crumble cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
For extra flavor, mix tart and sweet apple varieties. Reheat leftovers in the oven to keep the topping crisp. Freezes well for up to three months.
