  • Medium mixing bowl
  • Whisk or spoon
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Knife and cutting board

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 5 ripe bananas, sliced Very soft with brown spots for best flavor
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted 115 grams or 1 stick
  • 1 cup self-rising flour See notes for substitute
  • 1 cup whole milk Room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Optional but recommended

Instructions

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.
  • Step 2: Place sliced bananas into a large bowl. Add half of the sugar and gently toss. Let sit for 5 minutes to release natural juices.
  • Step 3: In a separate bowl, whisk together melted butter, remaining sugar, self-rising flour, milk, and cinnamon until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Step 4: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish. Spoon the banana mixture evenly over the top. Do not stir.
  • Step 5: Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the edges are bubbling. The center should be set but soft.
  • Step 6: Allow the cobbler to rest for 10 minutes before serving to thicken slightly. Serve warm.
